Brad had minor surgery today

and he's STILL smiling!

About six months ago, a "thing" showed up on Brad's forehead. He ignored it's tingles until it started to bleed. The dermatologist did a biopsy last month. Basal cell skin cancer. Brad calls it "the good cancer", if there is one. Melanoma is the kind that kills you. This one just has to be dug out. So that's what happened today. They basically just dig deeper and deeper until they get all the cancerous cells. The whole top of his head was numb. He said touching his "hair" felt like he was touching someone else's head. He was in quite a bit of pain this afternoon when the numbness wore off. But he's extremely tough and exceptionally manly so he's doing alright.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to the 50K run that will be held in his behalf in February '09. Start training.
Also, on a serious note, WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN! It needs to have UVA and UVB protection. Wear it all the time people. We only think to put it on when we are going to be in the sun all day but really every time you leave the office to walk to your car or drive in your car with you arm and hands getting direct sunlight or walk from your house to your mailbox... you are increasing your chances at DEATH. Think about it like that. Doesn't it make sense to rub a little something on your skin to prevent DEATH? I should think so.

Jill, oh my gosh!!! That is so scary! And it looks super painful! Give Brad our best! Glad the doctors were able to get it out and hope Brad feels better soon. I will do better with sunscreen!

Brad, I'm glad it was the "good" cancer. Hang in there buddy, you'll be back to normal in no time. I went to the dermo because I found something funny on my arm. By the time of my appt. it was gone. I'm on the look out for stuff though. Us fair skin people have to be careful. Why don't they put sunscreen in body lotion like they do face lotion???

Brad should just grow his hair out so he won't have these types of problems...

EW Gross. I worry about that all the time. I put on sunscree religiously, but i still tan right through it. I am hoping that my naturally dark complexion and hair will be may saving grace. But I freak out over every mole.

AHHH! Crazy, and scary. It looks really painful. I'm totally there for the 50K run, why not make it a 100K??

Oh boy, you need to have that picture WAY below the warning! I'm glad everything is ok though, I never wore sunscreen as a kid and I was as dark as a Mexican, I worry about skin cancer now too.

OH my goodness! I had no idea! What a crazy ordeal! So glad you guys still came last night. Your costumes were such a hit! You did get second place in 2 of the costume categories, there's gotta be a prize for that ,right?

Glad he got that taken care of and hope it heals fast.

He always sees the positive. "Good Cancer". I'm pretty sure that's an oxymoron, yes? Well, glad they were able to dig it out before it had to be the Grand Canyon on his head.

Also, it makes for a cool Halloween costume--so ya saved $$$ there.

WOWsers. Basal cell carcinoma? That's crazy! I liked how you said, "brad had minor surgery"... and meanwhile he's got a hole in his head.
I'm glad everything is ok now. Stupid ultraviolet light jacking w/ normal cellular DNA! Gosh!!

Good to hear he is a tough guy. Most guys in pain are not very manly!

I was actually coming to your blog to ask you if you have contact info for Elaine or her boys? Or contact info for someone that does?...or give my email to her? endthompson@gmail.com

Thanks!
Hope Brad heels quickly and never has to have this done again!!!

Wow, that looked really interesting! I'm glad to hear that it wasn't any thing too serious. There are so many new and weird things going around that you never know these days.

Looks like a third eye. Hope you get well soon. One good thing, they didn't have to shave your head.
Hope your well soon Brad.

So glad Brad doesn't have cancer. And that he helped with our chicken coup. If Alan had another pair of suspenders Brad could have borrowed them! Then he would have been a real redneck.
