We have shoes like that at my work (museum) but they are like ANCIENT....I thought the little Chinese ladies were done wearing those shoes...that is just nasty!

I learned about this in my oppression and diversity class. This is one of the ways that Chinese women are still being oppressed (like female genital mutilation) b/c small feet are considered desirable. At least that's what I think this picture is.
I always thought the vietnamese people were talking smack about me when I got a pedicure because my heels are so calloused, but now I know it's because my feet are enormous compared to that lady!
