Potty talk

I hate when Cohen has to go #2 in public. (How's that for an opening line?!) It takes him a good 10 minutes... maybe more... to get the job done. Today, we were playing at McDonalds on the way from preschool to home. I was hungry but because I'm such a cool mom, I said we'd play for 15 minutes and then go home to eat lunch. Conveniently, at the end of play time, Cohen suddenly had to go and could not wait the 3 minutes to get home. So Jace and I accompanied him into the women's handicap stall. (Incidentally, he wants to go in the men's bathroom but I refuse to let him go in alone. Normal right? Who lets their 4 year old go alone into a public restroom where men have their pants down?) So anyway, the following conversation occurred in the stall.

Co: (while grunting) Is that a workout shirt, Mom?
Me: (laughing) Yes. I went to the gym.
Co: I like that shirt. Did you know that one hump camels have one hump poop? And two hump camels have two hump poop?
Me: Yep, I read that somewhere.
Co: I have one coming right now. The big ones open up my bottom and the little ones just squeeze out.
Me: (laughing again) Thank you for sharing that. Let's not talk about it ok? Let's just get the job done.
Co: I know you're tired and hungry. It just takes me a really long time... I'm not just pooping. I'm peeing too. Usually I pee and then poop. Is that what you do mom? Or do you poop first?

And so on. You get the point. It was all very funny because all the while, Jace kept flushing the toilet and then covering his ears cuz it was loud. And then he'd hang off the handicap railing and say "ook ma!" over and over. And then he'd yell so he could hear his own echo. For 10 minutes people! I wish I'd had a video camera.

and it's a sign that you are a good mom, because you can laugh about it. I probably would have been so annoyed that I couldn't see the humor in it!

Love it. Why does it take them 10-15 minutes always when you're not home???

Jill...count your blessings. We do ten min bathroom trips and i count myself lucky. Elle strips down to NOTHING including hair clips and shoes, walks around the nasty public bathroom floors and the times i have tried to force her to just go...then she is fully naked laying down crying on the nasty floor (while our flight is boarding). we have gotten past a bit of the power struggle and I let her get naked, but she usually goes without the fits as long as I have great conversations like the ones you get to have. She gets her way a lot more when there is poop involved...
